Groundwater Rule Regulation Minimize

THE

GROUND WATER

RULE 

BECOMES

A REGULATION

ON DECEMBER 1, 2009

This rule applies to public groundwater systems (systems that have at least 15 service connections OR regularly serve at least 25 individuals daily at least 60 days out of the year). This rule also applies to any system that mixes surface water and groundwater if the groundwater is added directly to the distribution system and provided to consumers without treatment.

Don Van Veldhuizen of USA BlueBook will be teaching this information class. History is valuable. In this class we will address when technologies were first discovered and how those technologies are used today. We will also discuss if those technologies can be applied to current treatment requirements. A few topics to be covered are heat, UV, coagulation, and colloidal silver treatments, pipe types, corrosion control, valve types and tank and storage issues. Also to be discussed will be chlorine and its variation, ozone, fluoride and chemical feed in general.

She will provide training and assistance for drinking water systems seeking to have their drinking water source protection plans recertified by DEQ for another five years. Topics presented will include the following: *Fundamentals of Source Water Protection Area delineations
Identification and prioritization of potential point and nonpoint contaminant sources, including new or future contaminant sources; Drinking Water Source Protection Management Tools;  *Contingency planning in case of an emergency where drinking water is no longer available;  *Protection strategies for new drinking water sources; and  *Public awareness, education, and participation.
